Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said on Monday that his government would consider tougher gun laws after a mass shooting at Sydney’s Bondi Beach killed 15 people, marking the country’s worst gun violence since 1996.
The alleged attackers, a father and son, opened fire on crowds gathered at the beach on Sunday evening. Police confirmed that the 50-year-old father was licensed to own six firearms, which they believe were used in the shootings.
Albanese said stricter gun laws were needed, including limits on the number of firearms that can be owned by any one person.
"The government is prepared to take whatever action is necessary. Included in that is the need for tougher gun laws," he told reporters.
