Dembele and Bonmati claim top honours at FIFA best awards

The FIFA Best Awards ceremony took place in Doha, where Paris Saint-Germain star Ousmane Dembele was awarded the men's top prize, adding the honour to his Ballon d'Or victory from September.

The 28-year-old edged Kylian Mbappe and Lamine Yamal to cap off a brilliant year, during which he guided PSG to their first-ever Champions League triumph. The French club defeated three English Premier League sides en-route to the final, which they won emphatically with a 5- 0 victory over Inter Milan.

Dembele scored 35 goals across all competitions last season and played a key role as PSG swept every domestic title available in France. After an inconsistent spell at Barcelona, he signed for the Parisian club in 2023 and successfully revitalised his career.

He expressed hope of maintaining his world beating form as he looked ahead to 2026, a year set to feature the next FIFA World Cup.

The women's top prize was awarded to Aitana Bonmati, who added the honour to her Women's Ballon d'Or, which she had won for a third consecutive time earlier in the year. The 27-year-old helped Barcelona secure the domestic treble and reach the Champions League final. She also guided Spain to the European Championship final, where she was named Player of the Tournament.

Sarina Wiegman won the Best Women's Coach award for the fifth time after leading England to a successful defence of their European Championship title. On the men's side, Luis Enrique received the honour after guiding Paris Saint-Germain to their first Champions League triumph.

Italy's Gianluigi Donnarumma, now playing for Manchester City, claimed the Men's Goalkeeper award for his role in PSG's treble winning campaign. The Best Women's Goalkeeper award went to Chelsea's Hannah Hampton.
