A Chinese mainland spokesperson on Wednesday reiterated China's resolute opposition to foreign interference in Taiwan question.
Zhu Fenglian, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, made the statement in response to Taiwan leader Lai Ching-te's planned purchase of weaponry from the United States.
Zhu criticized Lai's authorities for continuously promoting "independence" to serve the interests of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) under his leadership. She also pointed out that Lai's authorities have repeatedly increased defense budgets, pushing residents in Taiwan down the "Taiwan independence" path.
She emphasized that attempting to achieve "independence" through external forces and military means poses a threat to the security and interests of the residents in Taiwan region.
"We have the strong will, confidence, resolve and capability to crush any secessionist attempt seeking 'Taiwan independence'," Zhu said, adding that China's reunification is unstoppable and "Taiwan independence" is a dead-end.
