Taipa Houses: A portrait of Macao's cultural fusion
The Taipa Houses are among Macao's most iconic landmarks, showcasing the beauty of the city's Portuguese-style architecture. The historic residences, together with the nearby Our Lady of Carmel Church and garden, form a tranquil tableau that reflects Macao's unique blend of cultures.
Built in 1921, the five most representative green houses have been converted into a museum complex, the Taipa Houses Museum, where visitors can explore the lifestyle of the Macanese, a group of people whose Portuguese ancestors married Chinese, Malay, Filipino or Indian people in Macao.
