When 'self-defense' casts an offensive shadow

Driven by 13 years of consecutive budget increases, Japan is rapidly expanding its military footprint. Besides upgrading military equipment and frequently participating in U.S.-led joint exercises to enhance long-range combat capabilities, Japan's also engaging in multilateral military cooperation and easing restrictions on arms exports.
