Chinese geologists have uncovered a new mineral composed of nickel, bismuth, antimony, arsenic, and sulfide in the Longhua nickel-cobalt deposit in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The mineral, named "Jinxiuite" after its location in Jinxiu Yao Autonomous County, provides a rare insight into the Earth's 4.6-billion-year evolution and may hold crucial implications for future material science. Experts have highlighted the significance of the nickel-cobalt deposit where "Jinxiuite" was found, as it contains critically scarce mineral resources, particularly cobalt, which China has long relied heavily on for imports .
