China will mediate the Cambodia–Thailand conflict and provide a platform for bilateral dialogue, Guo Jiakun, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said during a regular press conference on Friday.

"As a close neighbor and friend to both Cambodia and Thailand, China is highly concerned about the current situation along the Cambodia–Thailand border," said Guo, in response to a question on China sending a special envoy to Myanmar and Thailand for shuttle diplomacy.

"China does not wish to see the two countries resort to armed confrontation and is deeply saddened by civilian casualties on both sides."

China has been actively mediating the situation with respect to both sides, through diplomatic visits and providing platforms for bilateral dialogue, Guo explained. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held separate phone calls with his Cambodian and Thailand counterparts on Thursday, while the Foreign Ministry's special envoy for Asian affairs conducted shuttle diplomacy in both countries, urging both sides to reach a ceasefire and restore peace.
