In south China's Shenzhen, near-expiry surplus food isn't wasted – it's transformed into acts of kindness. Smart cabinets across neighborhoods provide surplus vegetables, fruits and bread to those in need, including sanitation workers and delivery riders. Since its launch in May 2022, the city's innovative 24/7 "Food Bank" program has served nearly 500,000 people, saved 195 tonnes of food from waste, and reduced carbon emissions by 390 tonnes. With temperature control, trusted partners and full traceability, safety is ensured. More than charity, it is a sustainable movement against hunger and food waste.
