China expressed strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition, and has lodged representations with the U.S. side regarding a defense policy bill, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said Friday.
Guo's remarks at a regular press conference came after U.S. President Donald Trump signed into law the annual defense policy bill, which contains anti-China measures.
Guo pointed out that the U.S. Fiscal Year 2026 National Defense Authorization Act NDAA hypes up the so-called "China threat," interferes in China's internal affairs, and undermines China's sovereignty, security and development interests. He stated that China expresses strong dissatisfaction with and firm opposition to the act, and that it has lodged solemn representations with the U.S. side on multiple occasions.
He stressed that China urges the U.S. side to view China's development and the China-U.S. relations in an objective and rational manner. He said that the U.S. should work with China in the same direction and jointly implement the important common understandings reached by the heads of state of the two countries during their meeting in Busan, South Korea.
Guo emphasized that the U.S. side must refrain from implementing the negative China-related provisions in the act and eliminate their adverse impacts. He warned that should the U.S. side insist on going its own way, China will take resolute and forceful measures to firmly safeguard its own sovereignty, security and development interests.
