Hong Kong legislator Regina Ip has rejected Western accusations that Jimmy Lai is being mistreated in prison, stating that there is "no truth whatsoever" to claims of torture or poor health. She noted that Lai defended himself in court for 52 days and appeared to be in good physical and mental condition, with his medical needs being met and solitary confinement requested for his own protection. Ip also suggested that Western governments have been influenced by lobbying linked to Lai, calling the allegations "a pack of shameless lies" and an example of double standards towards China and the Hong Kong SAR.
