After fresh snowfall in Hexigten Banner, Chifeng City, north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, a herd of red deer – a nationally protected species in China – was seen running at sunset across the white slopes of the Huanggangliang National Forest Park. The animals moved swiftly through the snow, their breath turning to frost in the cold air, bringing a sense of life and movement to the winter landscape.
