Several U.S. ambassadors appointed during the Biden administration have been asked by the Trump administration to leave their posts early next year, according to a statement issued by the American Foreign Service Association on Saturday.

The statement said in the last 36 hours, the association has received credible reports from the U.S. diplomatic missions around the world that multiple career ambassadors, appointed during the Biden administration, have received phone calls asking them to vacate their posts by January 15 or 16 next year, without providing any explanation for the action.

Unjustified removal of senior diplomats will damage America's credibility abroad and send a chilling signal to career diplomats that experience and oaths to the Constitution must give way to political loyalty, the statement said.

The association continues to call on leaders of both parties to defend a nonpolitical and professional diplomatic service, and resist the politicization of the diplomatic corps, it added.
