In central China's Honghu Lake, the skies abound with white cranes, oriental storks and tens of thousands of water birds. Once polluted by urban runoff, Honghu has rebounded thanks to dredging, water cleanup and the restoration of wetland plants. Rare fish, benthic life and migratory birds have returned, bringing the lake to its best water quality in a decade.
