A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said China strongly urges Japan to adhere to international law and its own constitution and cease its provocative actions on the issue of nuclear weapons possession.
Lin Jian made the comments at Monday's daily briefing, after local media reported that a senior Japanese official suggested the country should acquire nuclear weapons because of a worsening security environment.
Lin said the international community must show high vigilance and resolute opposition to such remarks, which seriously damage peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region and internationally.
China will not accept if Japan dares to challenge international justice and test the international community's bottom line.
