Bookplates were traditionally used by Western readers to mark the ownership of their books. When the Chinese woodcut print "Gaining Wealth on Horseback," which is a traditional Nianhua (Chinese New Year painting) theme, was made into a bookplate, it retained the exquisite and elegant qualities of Western bookplates while also infusing them with a rich Chinese cultural essence. This innovative fusion has also served as a bridge for international cultural exchanges. Check out this video to find out how artist Shi Yanqing and his colleagues created it!
