Crescent Spring, also called Yueya Spring, is situated 5 kilometers south of Dunhuang City in northwest China's Gansu Province. Winds carrying large amounts of sand are blocked by the mountains here, causing sand particles to settle and accumulate over time, thus forming Mingsha Mountain. Crescent Spring, nestled among the sand dunes, gets its name from its crescent shape. 

In winter, Mingsha Mountain and Crescent Spring take on an extra charm: flakes of snow cover the desert in silver, where golden sand dunes contrast beautifully with white snow.
