Grenville Cross: Lai's case about national security, not press freedom

Former director of public prosecutions of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Grenville Cross stated that while press freedom is protected under Hong Kong's Basic Law, the conduct in Jimmy Lai's case exceeded legitimate journalism. He dismissed international criticism as legally unfounded, affirming that Hong Kong's courts are independent and uphold fair-trial standards consistent with other common law jurisdictions.
