The Guangdong Southern Tigers pulled away in the second half to defeat the Guangzhou Loong Lions 93-85 on the road, maintaining a perfect start to the new CBA season with five consecutive wins.
Hu Mingxuan remained sidelined with a leg injury, but Guangdong started strong as Xu Jie's three-pointer made it 6-2. Jiangsu began their comeback in the third quarter as guard Pang Zhenglin converted a fast-break lay-up to cut the deficit to seven. The 26-year-old, making his CBA debut, had averaged 20 points per game in the first four rounds and added a crucial three-pointer. Pang scored 11 points in the third quarter alone, giving Jiangsu a 51-47 lead.
With the game tied at 82, Pang was fouled with 64 seconds remaining and made two clutch free throws to narrow the gap. He then sealed the victory with the final basket of his career-high 34 points. Jiangsu claimed an 88-84 win, recording their first victory of the season while handing Tianjin their fifth consecutive loss.
