As night falls, a vintage green passenger train at Hangzhou East Railway Station glows under warm light. No longer preparing for departure, the retired train has instead become a welcoming place for travelers to rest overnight for free.

This retro train has recently drawn attention online after a traveler shared photos of an overnight stay there on December 20. According to the post, travelers can register with a valid ticket and ID, after which staff assign seats by gender, arranging passengers of the same gender in the same carriage to ensure comfort and order.

Inside, the setup is more thoughtful than many might expect. Each seat is adjustable, allowing passengers to recline without disturbing others. Blankets, desk lamps and personal storage lockers are provided free of charge. Hot water and power outlets are also available, making it easier for travelers to recharge both themselves and their devices.

The service has been widely praised online. "This is such a great idea," one comment reads, while another wrote, "I stayed there overnight, and it was a great experience. Both the facilities and the staff were excellent."

According to information released on a local government online platform, the train has been in operation for nearly three months. Open from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m., the overnight rest area can accommodate up to 126 people, with clearly numbered seats.

Additional amenities include drinking water stations, a small reading area, emergency medical supplies, and screens displaying real-time train information. Each carriage also features a curtained nursing area for mothers with infants, while the rear carriage is designated as a priority section for women.

Security staff are on duty throughout the night, both inside and around the rest area, ensuring a safe and secure environment for those staying overnight.
