China Media Group (CMG) has released its 10 most memorable moments in international sports for 2025 to highlights its review of the past year.
1. Kirsty Coventry of Zimbabwe was elected as the 10th President of the International Olympic Committee, making her the first female and first African leader in the history of the organization, at the 144th IOC Session on March 20.
2. Sweden's Armand Duplantis broke the men's pole vault world record for a 14th time, on his way to winning gold at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, on September 15. The 26-year-old cleared 6.30 meters to win his third consecutive world title, while breaking the world record for the fourth time this year.
3. Italy's Jannik Sinner edged Spain's Carlos Alcaraz 7-6(4), 7-5 to defend the ATP Finals men's singles title on November 16. The two players split the year's four Grand Slam trophies, while 24-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic of Serbia reached the semifinals in all four tournaments.

4. PSG won their first UEFA Champions League title on May 31 with a 5-0 demolition of Inter Milan, sealing a treble after earlier winning Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France. Star forward Ousmane Dembele was named FIFA Men's Player of the Year and also won the Ballon d'Or.
5. The draw for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, co-hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico, took place in Washington, DC, on December 5. Next summer's edition will be the first World Cup hosted by three nations and the first to feature 48 teams.
6. The IOC and the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committees canceled a 12-year Olympic Esports Games partnership in October, bringing their collaboration on the inaugural Olympic Esports Games to an end.
7. Hugo Calderano made history by becoming the first Brazilian and Pan American player to win the ITTF Men's World Cup with a sensational 4-1 comeback victory over China's Lin Shidong on April 20.

8. The 2028 Los Angeles Summer Olympics will feature more female athletes than male competitors in a landmark moment for the Games, after the IOC announced approved quotas of 5,333 places for women and 5,167 for men.
9. Chelsea produced a commanding performance to defeat PSG 3-0 in the FIFA Club World Cup final on July 13, lifting the prestigious trophy for the first time in team history, at the inaugural 32-team edition of the expanded tournament.
10. France's Leon Marchand set a new world record in the men's 200-meter individual medley semifinals at the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore on July 30, while Summer McIntosh broke the world records in the 200-meter and 400-meter women's individual medleys at the Canadian swimming trials in June, showcasing the intense competition among the younger generation in the individual medley events.
