China's first million-tonne near-zero-carbon steel production line began full-capacity operation – a major breakthrough in the steel industry's low-carbon transition. The line uses hydrogen-based reduction and electric smelting, replacing traditional coke to cut carbon emissions. Compared to conventional methods, this new process reduces emissions by 50 to 80 percent. It offers a new pathway for China's steel industry to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels.
