The Shenzhen Leopards beat the Sichuan Blue Whales 96-87 at home in Shenzhen, south China's Guangdong Province, on Wednesday, clinching their second straight win while extending the opposing side's winless start to the CBA season to six losses.
Shenzhen's He Xining struggled to make shots as he missed 11 of his 17 field goal attempts, including six from beyond the three-point line. Nonetheless, he displayed strong offensive aggression by going to the free throw line nine times and making eight shots there.
The 28-year-old ended up one rebound short of a triple-double after contributing 21 points, nine rebounds and 11 assists. He also added two steals, with the well-rounded performance helping the Leopards stay ahead by double digits for most of the game.
Jing Hanyi and Duan Ruiqi combined to score 44 points for Sichuan, but the Blue Whales remain one of two winless teams in the league, alongside fellow early strugglers the Jiangsu Dragons.
In the evening's other two contests, the Jilin Northeast Tigers beat the Beijing Royal Fighters 87-73 at home for their fourth win in a row, while saddling the visitors from the capital with a fourth consecutive defeat.
And the Qingdao Eagles battled past the Xinjiang Flying Tigers 97-79 on the road. Jordan Mickey registered a double-double of 23 points and 15 rebounds for the visitors, while four of his teammates also scored in double digits.
Xinjiang's newly-signed American guard Kevon Harris made his CBA debut with 17 points, four rebounds and four assists, but also committed seven turnovers as the Flying Tigers disappointed the home fans in Urumqi.
