As the New Year approaches, a Dong ethnic village in Guizhou Province is filled with the aroma of freshly made ciba, a traditional glutinous rice cake prepared using time-honored methods.

Made from ingredients such as sticky rice and millet, the seasonal treat is now reaching far beyond the mountains from where it originated. In recent years, villagers have begun selling their handmade ciba through livestreaming and online platforms, giving local specialties a digital boost.

Local authorities have encouraged the integration of traditional culture with e-commerce. Residents now share their village life, ethnic customs, and handicraft skills through short videos and livestreams. The approach has helped keep intangible cultural heritage alive while creating new sources of income for local communities.
