On December 25, 2025, Bayingolin Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture in northwest China's Xinjiang hosted an exhilarating buzkashi, or traditional horseback goat-grabbing competition, pitting six local teams against each other in a fierce display of equestrian skill.
Recognized as a form of national intangible cultural heritage, buzkashi is a traditional sport that showcases strength, courage and horsemanship. Deeply ingrained in grassroots communities, the sport has teams in nearly every township across the prefecture, enriching the cultural life of farmers and herders and injecting lasting cultural momentum into rural revitalization.
