China's participation in BBNJ emphasizes multilateralism, equity for Global South

China is committed to cooperating with the international community to save marine biodiversity in areas beyond its national jurisdiction. Ratified recently by Beijing, the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biological Diversity of Areas beyond National Jurisdiction, or BBNJ Agreement, comes into force next month. The agreement currently has 145 signatories and 81 ratifications globally.
