Over 1,700 flights across the U.S. were cancelled on Dec 26 due to heavy snow, according to the FlightAware website. Roughly half of those were clustered around flights coming into or leaving New York City's three major airports – LaGuardia, JFK and Newark. Some areas could see snowfall top 25 cm in the heaviest bands, according to the National Weather Service. Due to the slow melting of snow caused by low-temperature weather, the risk of slippery and dangerous roads has increased, and New York City has issued a travel warning during the storm.
