China launches world's first 30MW-class pure hydrogen gas turbine

00:34

The world's first 30-megawatt-class pure hydrogen gas turbine, "Jupiter I", has entered stable operation in China, generating electricity entirely from hydrogen since Sunday. Jupiter I is the world's largest single-unit pure hydrogen gas turbine for power generation. It can convert stored hydrogen back into electricity during peak demand periods.

Compared with thermal power units of the same capacity, the gas turbine can cut carbon emissions by over 200,000 tonnes annually. Operating in combined-cycle mode, it generates 48,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity per hour, enough to meet the daily power demand of 5,500 households, according to Wang Yongzhi, general manager of Mingyang Hydrogen Gas Turbine Technology.
