From unpunished war crimes to Japan's modern right-wing revival

02:56

Over the years, militarism has steadily violated Japan's Pacifist Constitution under the guise of "security anxiety" and "national normalization." In 1948, amid the Cold War, under the "Reverse Course" implemented by the U.S., Japanese war criminals were released unpunished, enabling many militarists to enter Japan's political sphere. Nobusuke Kishi returned to power to boost Japan's militarism. His grandson Shinzo Abe continued this, expanding Japan's security role and recklessly claiming "a Taiwan emergency," crossing red lines. Today, figures such as Sanae Takaichi are even flirting with nuclear armament – further eroding Japan's postwar pacifist restraints.
