China's Tarim Oilfield, a main gas source for the West-East Gas Pipeline, has generated more than 2 billion kilowatt-hours of solar power in 2025, with peak daily output exceeding 10 million kilowatt-hours for the first time. Located in the heart of the Taklimakan Desert, the oilfield's large-scale, distributed photovoltaic projects now form a combined oil, gas and renewable energy system. Most of the "desert green power" is exported out of Xinjiang, while also helping cut the field's energy consumption and carbon intensity.
