Strong earthquake hits off Peru's northern coast

A magnitude-6.1 earthquake hit off the northern coast of Peru at a depth of 100 kilometers on Saturday, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.

The Geophysical Institute of Peru measured the quake at magnitude 6.0, saying it struck near the city of Chimbote in the Ancash region at 9:51 p.m. local time.

There have been no reports of casualties or property damage so far.
