China Media Group (CMG) held a symposium in Beijing on Tuesday to celebrate the 85th anniversary of the founding of the People's Radio Broadcasting Service.

Shen Haixiong, vice minister of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and president of China Media Group (CMG), attended the event and delivered a speech. CMG Vice President Wang Xiaozhen chaired the meeting. CMG Vice President Xing Bo and former CMG Vice President Yan Xiaoming were also present.

Veteran and young radio hosts, experts and scholars, as well as listener representatives, exchanged views on amplifying the Party's voice, guiding public opinions, promoting fine culture, and advancing integrated innovation. They offered suggestions for the high-quality development of Chinese people's radio broadcasting in the new era.

Over the past 85 years, the growth of Chinese people's radio broadcasting has closely aligned with the development of the Party and the country and has responded to the people's aspirations, the meeting said. In recent years, under CMG, radio broadcasting has accelerated the high-quality development, advanced integrated innovation, and significantly enhanced its guiding capacity, communication reach, and social influence, injecting renewed vitality into the "red airwaves” in the new era.

Participants stressed the need to uphold the correct political orientation, strengthen ideological foundations, expand the supply of high-quality content, and better serve the people. They also called for deepening reform and innovation, promoting integrated communication with an all-media approach, strengthening technological empowerment, and building a strong talent pool to achieve new breakthroughs in the systemic transformation of mainstream media and make greater contributions to building a strong socialist culture.

China's first radio station, the Yan'an Xinhua Radio Station, began broadcasting on December 30, 1940, in Yan'an, in northwest China's Shaanxi Province.

Since the CMG's inauguration in 2018, the people's radio broadcasting service has advanced reform and innovation and deepened integrated communication. It has moved beyond radio alone and made a full push into the new media sector, advancing systemic transformation in depth.

By building an international, first-class, new-type mainstream media outlet with strong guiding power, communication reach, and influence, CMG has strengthened public opinion leadership, diversified content formats and communication channels, and deepened media integration, marking a historic leap forward.
