The People's Liberation Army's (PLA) Eastern Theater Command has launched military drills in response to the largest U.S. arms sale to the Taiwan region. The $11.1 billion package includes HIMARS rocket systems, seen as having offensive capabilities. Zheng Jiang, a professor at Xiamen University's Center for Taiwan Studies, says the PLA has ways to counter any weapon acquired by Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party authorities.
