More than 10 new films will greet Chinese moviegoers during the three-day New Year holiday, including "Escape from the Outland," which will premiere on December 31.

Shot entirely using IMAX production techniques, the movie about hostages who engineer their own escape and rescue within 105 days has drawn significant attention from moviegoers.

At the film's recent Beijing premiere, director Shen Ao explained the movie poster's central image: a wind chime made of bullet casings, inspired by a real encounter during his team’s research trip. "This wind chime, along with other details such as a crutch made from artillery shell casings by children in a minefield area, was incorporated into the film's creation by the production team, adding authenticity to the storytelling."

Xu Dezhi, a former China Media Group correspondent who reported from Syria, shared his firsthand warzone experiences at the premiere. He recalled one harrowing assignment where his vehicle came under attack and a rocket exploded just behind it. To illustrate war's impact, Xu displayed his own photos of Syrian children living in the shadow of conflict. The innocence in their eyes moved the audience, serving as a poignant reminder of war's human cost.

The holiday lineup, which also includes the highly anticipated film adaptation of the beloved Hong Kong TV drama "Back to the Past," opening in Chinese cinemas on December 31, looks set to offer cinemagoers a diverse range of choices.
