Lai Ching-te, leader of China's Taiwan region, faces mounting pressure as calls for his impeachment grow. A joint impeachment initiative launched by the Kuomintang (KMT) and the Taiwan People's Party (TPP) has passed a legislative vote. At the same time, a parallel online petition has drawn over eight million signatures. The "Taiwan independence" forces led by Lai Ching-te, seeking to curry favor with the U.S. and increasing defense spending at the expense of the economy and public welfare, are going against the popular will, losing support and bound to trigger a significant backlash.
