The Beijing Tongzhou Railway Station in the eastern part of the Chinese capital officially entered service on Tuesday, further saving travel time across the Jing-Jin-Ji region, which includes the capital city, neighboring Tianjin city and Hebei Province in north China.
As a key part of the intercity transportation network in the region, the railway station is expected to be an additional gateway to casual getaways, making cross-city commuting and whim-inspired travel easier than ever. Travel time between Beijing and Qinhuangdao, a must-go coastal destination for people from the region, has been shortened to 90 minutes.
Currently, there are eight major railway stations in Beijing. With the New Year holiday approaching, an estimated 6.28 million passenger trips are expected to be made from Beijing between December 31, 2025, and January 4, 2026, according to Beijing Railway.
