As the New Year approaches, villagers at a rice cakes workshop in a rural part of Changzhou, east China's Jiangsu Province, have started making traditional rice cakes.
More than just a delicacy, these rice cakes carry New Year blessings. Each shape symbolizes a different wish: Yuanbao, or traditional Chinese gold ingots, symbolize wealth; peach-shaped ones stand for longevity and good health; persimmon-shaped ones signify good luck in everything. The rice cakes are also imprinted with festive phrases like "Happy New Year" and "abundance year after year"—brimming with the joyful spirit of the Spring Festival.
