Venezuelan Acting President Delcy Rodriguez on Sunday called for a "balanced and respectful" relationship with the United States, a day after its strikes and forcible seizure of Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.

"We consider it a priority to move toward a balanced and respectful relationship between the U.S. and Venezuela," Rodriguez wrote on Telegram.

"We extend an invitation to the U.S. government to work together on an agenda for cooperation that is aimed toward shared development."

"President Donald Trump: our people and our region deserve peace and dialogue, not war. This has always been President Nicolas Maduro's message, and it is a message of all Venezuela right now," Rodriguez said in comments made directly to the U.S. president.

"Venezuela has the right to peace, to development, to sovereignty and to a future," she added.
