China's two-time Olympic short track speed skating champion Wu Dajing announced his retirement on Tuesday, opting for a low-key farewell in lieu of holding a ceremony.

The 31-year-old claimed gold in the men's 500 meters at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Games for China's sole title at that edition. He then helped the host nation top the podium in the mixed 2,000m relay at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

Wu says he considered retiring after those home Games, but continued to skate due to his love of the sport. He only competed at a few international events afterwards, with his last domestic appearance coming at the 14th National Winter Games in 2024.

Wu is currently serving as a coach at the Jilin Provincial Sports Bureau's Ice Sports Management Center and also teaches at Jilin University's Physical Education College.
