Top seed Lin Shidong of China started the WTT (World Table Tennis) Champions Doha with a routine win over French paddler Flavien Coton 11-3, 12-10, 11-2 in the men's singles draw on Wednesday.
Lin needed only 21 minutes to seal the deal. The second game was much closer before the World No. 2 prevailed by two points. He will face Benedikt Duda of Germany in the round of 16.
On the women's side, Chinese second seed Kuai Man cruised past Elizabeta Samara of Romania 11-9, 11-5, 11-8 to advance to the last 16. Her next opponent will be Hina Hayata of Japan.
Kuai's compatriot Wang Yidi knocked off Cheng I-Ching of Chinese Taipei in three close games 12-10, 12-10, 11-8 to earn her place in round of 16. The fourth seed will next take on Sofia Polcanova of Austria.
