Below the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) city walls at Laomendong scenic zone in Nanjing, a giant leaping horse lantern is springing to life – ready to steal the spotlight at the upcoming Qinhuai Lantern Festival this Spring Festival season.
Dating back more than 1,700 years, the Qinhuai Lantern Fair is one of China's major national-level intangible cultural heritage events. Since its revival in 1985, it has run for 39 straight years and is set to usher in its 40th edition in 2026.
