Mrs. Gould's sunbird, a brightly colored nationally protected species in China, has been spotted flitting among cherry trees along the Zhafang River in Linxiang District, Lincang, southwest China's Yunnan Province. Often dubbed the "hummingbird of Asia," the nectar-feeding bird darted through the pink blossoms, its vivid plumage and quick movements adding a splash of life to the winter landscape. Mrs. Gould's sunbird is named after Elizabeth Gould, the gifted artist who created beautiful lithographs for her husband, ornithologist John Gould's books.
