As the first golden ray of sunrise seeps over the horizon and settles upon Xiaoruo village in Taizhou city, Zhejiang Province in east China, it awakens the quiet coastal hamlet from its sweet dreams. The brightly painted walls catch the morning glow, their colors deepening as they spill into the water, where glittering ripples scatter the light like fragments of colored glaze.
