China is ready to continuously deepen the strategic cooperative partnership based on sincere mutual assistance and a lasting friendship with Sri Lanka, and promote the building of a China-Sri Lanka community with a shared future, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Monday.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks while meeting with Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath during a brief visit to the country.

Wang said China stands ready to work with Sri Lanka to exchange experiences in governance, expand practical cooperation in various fields, and facilitate friendly people-to-people exchanges, Wang said.

He said China will firmly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries, especially small and medium-sized countries, uphold the purposes of the UN Charter and international law, and work with like-minded countries to resist the resurgence of the "law of the jungle," oppose all forms of power bullying, and defend multilateralism and international justice.

He called on both sides to strengthen regional cooperation oriented towards South Asia and jointly build a more just and equitable global governance system.

Herath said Sri Lanka regards China as its most reliable strategic partner, voicing willingness to maintain close high-level exchanges with China, deepen cooperation in areas such as infrastructure, maritime affairs, tourism and people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and continuously elevate the Sri Lanka-China strategic cooperative partnership to new levels.

Sri Lanka firmly adheres to the one-China principle, he said, calling for enhancing communication and coordination in multilateral fields to jointly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries.
