The Beijing Royal Fighters edged the Fujian Sturgeons 94-91 at home in Beijing on Monday after nearly blowing a 23-point advantage.
With 5.1 seconds to go in the fourth quarter, the game was tied 91-91 and the hosts' throw-in went to Grant Riller. He was double-teamed, but found Liao open outside the three-point line. The 24-year-old pulled up and made the game winner before the game clock ran out, serving his side their sixth win of the season.
That was the only triple Liao made on the night. He contributed a double-double of 11 points and 10 assists for the Royal Fighters.
Both Zhu Songwei and Riller knocked down three shots from downtown. Zhu scored a team-high 27 points and Riller got 26.
The Sturgeons almost came back from 23 points down thanks to the dominant performance of Zeng Lingxuan who made 11 of his 14 field goals to score a game-high 33 points for the visitors. He also became the first player in CBA history to sink at least nine threes at 100-percent rate in one game.
Also on the night, the Tianjin Pioneers rallied to beat the Guangzhou Loong Lions 98-93 on the road. Javion Hamlet contributed 28 points for the visitors. Scottie James had a double-double of 23 points and 18 rebounds for Tianjin.
The Zhejiang Golden Bulls extended the Sichuan Blue Whales' winless streak to 14 games with a 103-68 win at home. Dakari Johnson got double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds for the home side.
