U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth announced on Monday that Grok, the artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot developed by Elon Musk's company, will be integrated into Pentagon networks. Alongside Google's generative AI system, it will operate within the U.S. Department of War.

"We are excited to announce the next frontier AI model company to join GenAI.mil and that is Grok from xAI. Very soon we will have the world's leading AI on every unclassified and classified network through our department," said Hegseth at SpaceX. He noted that Grok will officially enter the department systems later this month, adding that relevant data within the military's information technology systems will be accessible to the AI model.

Hegseth emphasized that the AI Acceleration Strategy aims to advance technological innovation and military capabilities by fully integrating AI into the operational framework of the U.S. armed forces.

Grok, developed by Musk's xAI, is embedded in the X platform for its users. The social network came under fire recently after users flooded X with sexualized content of women and minors generated by Grok's AI. The company has now restricted Grok's image generation and editing access to paid users only.
