A century ago, China’s classic qipao dress made its way from the bustling streets of Shanghai to the world – and today it is reborn. In Zhou Zhuguang’s qipao workshop, ideas often begin with old theatrical costumes. With help from two master embroiders, he has been deconstructing traditional Chinese elements and motifs to incorporate them into his designs. His endeavors are not for mere nostalgia, but to carry tradition into contemporary fashion.
