Flocks of bohemian waxwings, a nationally protected Class II species, were recently seen feeding in a crabapple orchard in Jimusar County, northwest China's Xinjiang. The winter migrants were joined by the rarely spotted fieldfare. The sightings reflect improved local ecosystems, as measures such as preserving fruit-bearing trees and reducing human disturbance have created better habitats for overwintering birds.
