A Chinese envoy called on all parties to exercise restraint and avoid further escalating the situation in Iran at a UN Security Council meeting on January 15.

Sun Lei, Chargé d'Affaires of the Permanent Mission of China to the UN, stressed that Iran's affairs should be decided independently by the Iranian people, and called on the U.S. to abide by the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and abandon its fixation on the use of force.
