CGTN

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Friday held a phone call with Uzbekistan's Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov.

Wang said that the strategic guidance of the leaders of two countries has provided the most important political guarantee for the China-Uzbekistan all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership in the new era. He noted that last year was another fruitful year for China-Uzbekistan relations, with cooperation in trade, culture, and local exchanges expanding and maintaining strong momentum.

Wang emphasized that the international situation has become more volatile since the start of 2026, marked by the shadows of war and the prevalence of unilateral bullying. He emphasized that China and Uzbekistan should strengthen strategic coordination, deepen strategic cooperation, and firmly support each other in safeguarding core interests. He added that both nations must work together to resist "the law of the jungle" becoming the international order, uphold the basic norms of international relations, and safeguard the central role of the United Nations. As this year marks the 10th anniversary of the China-Uzbekistan comprehensive strategic partnership, Wang called for joint efforts to design and expand the next decade of bilateral ties.

Saidov stated that President Shavkat Mirziyoyev's visit to China last September injected strong impetus into bilateral ties. He stressed that developing relations with China is a priority for Uzbekistan, and the high level of mutual trust remains unaffected by temporary events. Saidov reaffirmed that Uzbekistan firmly adheres to the one-China principle and opposes any actions harming China's sovereignty. He also hoped to implement the consensus reached by the leaders of two countries, deepen cooperation in all fields and continue strengthening multilateral coordination to defend multilateralism, international law, and the principles of international relations.
