Blue ice lake draw visitors to Qiongmu Gonga Mountain near Lhasa

Visitors have been flocking to a frozen alpine lake at the foot of Qiongmu Gonga, a snow-capped mountain in Lhasa, southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region, to take photos and enjoy dramatic winter scenery. Amid frigid winter temperatures, lakes at the base of the mountain froze over, creating striking views where blue ice mirrored towering snow peaks. The natural spectacle has become a seasonal highlight for travelers seeking pristine highland landscapes.

Qiongmu Gonga is the closest 7,000-meter-class snow mountain to Lhasa, with its main peak rising to 7,048 meters above sea level. The ice lake, located at an altitude of about 5,300 meters, enters its prime "blue ice" season from December to April each year. During this period, the ice can reach several meters in thickness, preserving an unspoiled plateau environment.

In addition to the snow mountains and translucent blue ice, visitors may encounter Tibetan antelope and blue sheep, as well as diverse landforms including alpine meadows and glacial relics, making the area a rare window into Xizang's high-altitude natural ecosystem.
